Draft Kit
- How do I get it?
- What happens after I order a draft kit?
-
Typically, within minutes of purchasing a draft kit, an automated email (from Left Wing Lock) is dispatched to the email account associated with your PayPal account. You should also receive a receipt for your purchase from PayPal.
If you purchase your draft kit on, or after, August 1, this automated email will contain a "claim code" for you to use to claim your draft kit. Once you've claimed your draft kit, you can enter your league's scoring details so that your kit can be customized by our team.
If you purchase your draft kit prior to August 1, the automated email will be an acknowledgement of the purchase. You will receive draft kit access instructions and your claim code on August 1 (via email). - Help. I did not receive an email / claim code.
- Claim codes are sent to the email address associated with your PayPal account. Please check your spam/bulk mail folders. If you do not have access to this particular email account or otherwise did not receive the email (check spam please), then please email us using the contact form. Use your real name and real email address so that we can check our records and we'll get back to you shortly.
Starting Goalies
- How does the confirmation system work?
- A goalie can have a status of Projected, Likely, or Confirmed. Projected (labeled with the color red) means we have no source of information and are making an educated guess on the starting goalie at this time. Likely (labeled with the color yellow) means that we have a source suggesting that this goalie might start in today's game, but the source stops short of confirming it as fact. You can click on the word Likely and be taken to the source of this information. Confirmed (labeled with the color green) means we have one or more sources stating that the goalie will start today's game. You can click on the word Confirmed and be taken to the source of this information. We have a multi-season 99.9% accuracy rate for goalies that are labeled Confirmed on our website. If you click on any goalie's name on this page, you will be taken to that goalie's profile page on our website.
- What do the 10 dots mean just above each goalie's stats?
- Consider the colored circles to represent the "start strength" for a particular goalie in that game. The scale is 0-10 with 10 being the strongest start possible. The model that generates these values uses 10 statistical inputs (including goal metrics, possession metrics, special teams, and more) and is updated on a nightly basis. We anticipate that the model will produce somewhat “loose” results early in the season due to small sample sizes. The colors match the status of the goalie as Projected (red), Likely (yellow), Confirmed (green). We track the performance of this model in the Pick 'em contest (labeled as ROBOT :: RODOT). The success rate of picking winners was 62.2% for the 2021-2022 season.
- How do I interpret the back-to-back data under a goalie's name?
- The words BACK TO BACK appear under each goaliie's name. If the first BACK is highlighted in orange, then the team is playing in the front-end of a back-to-back set (that is, they are playing games today and tomorrow). If the second BACK is highlighted in orange, then the team is playing in the tail-end of a back-to-back set (that is, they played yesterday and are playing again today).
Line Combinations
- What data does this tool show me?
- The line combinations are a five-part tool that is the most comprehensive and accurate line combination data available anywhere. Part one is the Game Day line combinations. This data has timestamps that let you know if the information comes from morning skates, practices, or warm-ups. The players are listed according to their positions (e.g., LW-C-RW). This data is updated throughout the day by our team. The other four parts of the tool contain the line combinations as they were used in recent games. This data comes straight from the NHL and is the most accurate representation of in-game data available. Note, the NHL does not supply positional data and so the players are not necessarily listed in the typical LW-C-RW format (instead consider the groupings as F1-F2-F3). As we provide this data for more than 2,500 games per year, it is not possible that we can manually adjust the position designations for every game. With these remaining four parts of the tool, you have the option to view the most recent game's line combinations, the most recent three games' line combinations, the most recent 10 games' line combinations, as well as the line combinations from the entire season.
- A player is showing up on two different lines. How is this possible?
- The in-game line combination data is not a simple depth chart that can be found on many other sites. Our data reveals the most frequently used line combinations during games by the selected team. If a player gets injured or benched during a game, another player must be double-shifted to keep the lines balanced. Our data reflects these subtle in-game changes.
User Registration
- Do I need to create a user account at the site?
- No. User registration is not required. Most of our tools are available to non-registered users. If you wish to use a draft kit, use the site chat, or participate in any of our contests with cash prizes (such as the Playoff Bracket Challenge or the various Pick 'em contests), you will need to create a free user account.
- Can I change my username?
- Once you create your account, you will not be able to change your username on your own. You can email our team using the contact form and ask for assistance with this process. Simply let us know your current username as well as the new username you'd like to use. We will process the request quickly.

*In almost all cases, customer support is best handled via email since it typically involves sending you a link and/or claim code. - Which is your favorite hockey team?
- The individual staff members at LWL like the Philadelphia Flyers (great), Washington Capitals (acceptable), Calgary Flames (neutral), and the Pittsburgh Penguins (this guy is getting fired).
- Do you provide customer service on social media sites?
- No. Nearly all customer service interactions involve the transfer of a claim code, password, or other personal information that is not suitable to be posted on social media. Our social media accounts are not monitored on a regular basis. We respond quickly to all requests through our contact form.
- Does cursing, using terms like ASAP, or emailing multiple times get my email addressed more quickly?
- No. We handle emails in the order they arrive. If emails contain abusive language, demands like ASAP, or are sent multiple times then they are moved to the bottom of the list.
- Is it true that the LWL team is ridiculously good looking?
- Yes.
